Vanburn Holder was a fast-medium bowler who, at the start of his career, was used mainly as first-change to the fearsome combination of Wes Hall and Charlie Griffith. His best performance (6-28) in a Test innings was reserved towards the end of his ten-year career. Although a bowler, Holder was handy with the bat and posted a career-best of 122 for Barbados in 1973/1974. Holder also played for South Africa's Orange Free State and England's Worcestershire, helping the latter to win the county championship in 1974. He later became a qualified first-class umpire in England.
