GORDAN GREENIDGE

Once described by a former England player as "the most complete right-hander the game has ever seen", Gordon Greenidge formed one half of Test cricket's most durable pair of opening batsmen with his fellow Bajan Desmond Haynes. One of a small group of players to score a century in his first Test match, he was very technically sound and devastating when on the attack. He will always be remembered for his unbeaten 214 at Lord's against England in 1984 when West Indies successfully chased 344 to win in less than a day after declaration by the opponents on the fifth morning. With Haynes, Greenidge formed a wonderful association, featuring in 16 Test centuries as an opening pair, four of which double centuries.
