SIR GARRY SOBERS

The most complete cricketer of all time, Sir Garry was simply a genius on the field and was knighted for his services to the game in 1975. He made his first-class debut at the age of 16 and appeared in his first Test match a year later. As a batsman, he was great, achieving a world record highest Test score of 365 not out against Pakistan at Sabina Park in 1958. It was a record that stood for 36 years before it was broken by Brian Lara in 1994. It was also the first of Sobers' 26 Test centuries, which stood as a West Indies high until Lara went past the mark in 2004. As a bowler, Sir Garry was three players in one with his high degree of variety. He was also a superb close-to-the-wicket fielder.
